Introducing the Creatures
Make your event a memorable one!
Flea Circus Productions’ Creature ensemble provides unique characterizations based on native creatures that are designed to intrigue and tantalize. Roving performers are guaranteed to spice up your event and create a lively, carnival atmosphere.
Swathed in elaborate full body costumes and masks, performers use movement and mime as their primary form of expression. The Creatures rove through crowds and audiences in full costume and character, interacting with each other and engaging in theatrics with the audience.
All character costumes are lovingly designed and hand made locally by artists Gina Knight and Kio Blythe from fine fabrics and textiles and some recycled materials. Kio Blythe has worked with various community organisations in Perth as a community artist, sculptor, float builder, puppet maker and operator. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Anglia Polytechnic University, Cambridge in the United Kingdom in 1995. She obtained her Unrestricted Pyrotechnics licence within Western Australia and works as a fully qualified pyrotechnican at local festivals and events. Gina and Kio worked furiously and tirelessly to create 'The Creatures' character costumes and produced a 20 minute children's show 'The Creature Feature' which has been showcased at Mandurah Stretch Fest and the City Farm Kambarang Festival. The creatures are now available for roving performances.

La Cucaracha - The Giant Cockroach
Australians all encounter cockroaches from time to time, but they have never, EVER stumbled upon a cockroach QUITE like this!
This dastardly life-sized character is sure to excite and bewilder crowds with it s incredibly creepy, buggish antics. He turns up .... feelers 'n all in the most unexpected and inappropriate places...
He loves to dance, being quite a mover and shaker, and spends a lot of time looking for sumptuous leftovers (preferably other people's...) hanging out in the sun and making new and unlikely friends.
Always the attention seeker, La Cucaracha occasionally breaks out into a bellowing OPERATIC ARIA, turning heads from miles around!
La Cucaracha invokes reactions of hilarity and awe as audience members playfully explore their phobias.

Lizzie the Frilled Neck Lizard
Indeed, very few of us actually see a frill necked lizard in the wild, never mind in this proportion!
Lizzie is exquisite! She is a giant human sized frilled neck lizard that captivates adults and children with her litheness and grace. Her frill is over a metre wide and very impressive!
Lizzie ignites the imagination, moving slowly, allowing little ones to stop and investigate. Interacting with her is certainly a memorable moment.
She is a very warm character. She’s not always serious though and enjoys a bit of banter with her good friend La Cucaracha!

Sammy the Silver Bat
Another interesting creature to liven up your event! A sleek silver bat with great wings that open and close.
A cheeky little fellow, curious, always looking for a bit of adventure. But if he gets scared, he stops and hides behind his beautiful silver wings as his knees knock together! He loves meeting children and likes very much to have a pat on his furry head.
This costume is another credit to the Flea Circus team of artists and is beautifully handmade with glistening fabric and fur. The winds are fully extendable and are designed to emulate a real live bat! The only thing this little critter can't do is hang upside down...
